Suggest Treatment For Hyper-pigmentation On Feet And Ankles

default
Posted on Tue, 29 Sep 2015
Question: I have had venous valve incompetence treated by ablation of the greater and lesser saphenous veins and
incompetent perforators. I have been left with hyperpigmentation of the feet and ankles.
Is there anyway to reduce this pigmentation or at least keep it from getting worse?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Probability of improvement in hyperpigmentation is good

Detailed Answer:
My Dear XXXXXXX

Welcome to the site!

I am Dr XXXXXXX XXXXXXX a Sr Consultant Dermatologist and I have dealt with cases having history like yours.

I have noted and assessed your concerns.

I am of the opinion that hyper pigmentation of the skin is due to the leaked red blood cells which are undergoing a chemical change by the action of body's immune system.

It can definitely be made better and the following measures are the way to go:

1 One should avoid situations that cause pooling of blood in the dependent parts of the body. The examples of such activities are like standing for long periods, sitting in the chair without moving around every 30 minutes or so, and running or walking long distances. To help blood flow, one can massage the feet and legs in the direction of blood flow, that is, from feet towards thighs.Another thing that you can easily do is to use a center table or stool while watching television to support your feet

2 Certain preparations like those containing agents to dissolve blood accumulated in under-skin tissues usually prove helpful.

3 Oral medications are reported to give good results and several patients of mine have been benefited by their use.

Please note that the sooner you start working on this plan, the better the results are likely to be. And above all, it is advantageous to wait and continue with measures as the response is invariably good to excellent.

I hope you too will derive advantage from this information and get well soon.

Our best wishes!
