Question: Hi Doctor

I am suffering from fever for last 5 days. I got an appointment in one of the famous hospital here and they prescribed me medications like calpol etc. We have taken platelet count tow times first it showed 200000 and next result which taken after two days showed 185000 . But my fever to an extend reduced compared to before ,but still have body pains and fatigue but manageable though. Is this varying platelet count suggesting me that I have dengue or is it normal for human body to have platelet count like this.Do I need to take another platelet count test or if I wont get any more fever in next two days can leave it just like that. Please suggest me what are the next set of things to be done from my side as I am so much worried because planning to travel abroad soon in a months time.

Brief Answer:
This is a normal variation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.

Normal platelet count varies between 1.5 lac to 4.5 lac. Your both reading are within normal limit and a variation of 15000 is acceptable as it may be due to machine error or a normal turnover of body platelets.
You most likely had a viral fever and it can cause a prolong fatigue. It may or may not be a dengue fever.
However if you want to ascertain, I will advise you to undergo ELISA IgM for dengue virus test.
At this stage as you are asymptomatic I dont advise you another platelet count. However if dengue test comes positive, then you can undergo one more platelet count and PCV test.

Thanks and regards
