Suggest Treatment For High Fever, UTI And Blood Infections

Question: My 7 month old grandson recently ran a fever of 102 degrees. When he went to the doctor, his white blood cell count was 19,000. His pediatrician told us he ruled out everything but a urinary tract infection and blood infection. That was three days ago. At the visit, the doctor took more blood and a urine sample. Today, he is telling us that it will probably take another day for the urine results and he wants to test the blood for five consecutive days. We have no other information. Why would a doctor need to test blood for five days?

Brief Answer:
maybe he needs to monitor crp or platelets

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Usually daily blood tests for 5 days will be done only if the doctor finds low platelets or high crp.
This may be required to see the trend in crp or platelets

Otherwise I don't see any reason for daily bloods.
I think you need to wait till urine results come.
Continue medicines as per his advice until then.

If you have the complete blood reports send it to us.
That will help us understand his reports fully.

Wishing your child good health.

Dr Arun
