Suggest Treatment For High BP

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: Hi I've been diagnosed with hypertension and prescribed Ramipril. My GP has also made an appointment for an ecg and x-ray as I informed her my mother has cardiomyopathy and this could be "secondary hypertension". I had it checked last week and it was high end of normal and now it s "seriously high".
I am very anxious (for years my GP said I had white coat syndrome) about both my blood pressure and that it looks like I have this heart condition. Please help!

Brief Answer:
Relax, Cardiomyopathy does not cause high BP

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXX,

Welcome to HCM,

I understand your concern.
You are going through a stressful period and this is reflected in your elevation of blood pressure.
Did you have an ambulatory blood pressure monitoring or home monitoring of your blood pressure? If you have white coat hypertension, these are helpful in the diagnosis and treatment.
Cardiomyopathy does not present with high blood pressure.
Swelling of legs, palpitation and breathlessness are the usual symptoms of dilated cardiomyopathy. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy can present with a chest pain and dizziness.
You have only a small chances of getting a cardiomyopathy and if you do not have the symptoms, relax.
Once you have your ECG and Xrays, you could upload the results and I shall be happy to give my opinion.
Best wishes,
Dr. Noble Zachariah
