Question: I have a 7 year old kidney transplant (with 4 out of 6 matches). My creatinine since has always been below 1.0. My CBC, electrolytes, and renals, have always been , remarkably, within the Normal range By BP has been outstanding 120/75. with Adalat treatment. However I received a Pacemaker two months ago for Bradycardia (40 bpm) and have some atrial fib.My problem is that my BP is now typically in the 150s/85 except fot the few hours after 100mg valsartan and 60 mg Nifedipne. Is the Pacemaker involved. What is the solution? TNX

Brief Answer:
Your blood pressure is not very high

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have read your query. Your blood pressure at 150/85 is not very high. It is still fine, and it is expected at this age with renal transplant as well.

What drugs are you put on for Atrial Fib? What other medications do you regularly take?

If your doctors thinks it is right, you can go for a third anti-hypertensive.

Overall, your blood pressure is not alarming, and it does not warrant medical treatment.

Keep a regular recording of your BP and see if it drops down.

Regular walking and healthy lifestyle would also help you to reduce the blood pressure.

No Atrial fib drugs yet. My Meds:Myfortic, Tacrolimus, Prednisone, Nifedipine, LOsartan, Cymbalta, XXXXXXX Lunesta, B-12, D3, Multivit.. I am physically very active. (four hours each day of heavy gardening). My wife says that I make the Energizer Bunny look like a quadriplegic. I do have a second problem however if you wish to address it. I recently had a profound sudden hearing loss (-20db) in both ears and my ENT suspects Tacrolimus as the cause. Any thoughts?? Thanks

Brief Answer:
yes, Tacrolimus is the culprit

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

No drugs for A fib yet, then it might not be a serious concern.

I see that you are on a lot of drugs that could cause variations in your blood pressure.

Tacrolimus, prednisone, can cause raise in blood pressure. Lunesta can decrease the blood pressure. Cymbalta, XXXXXXX have minimal effects on blood pressure. Nifedipine and Losartan lower the blood pressure.

At this point, I would suggest that you monitor your blood pressure regularly without adding or removing the essential drugs.

I am glad to know that you are physically very active. Continue the same.

Yes, Tacrolimus does cause sudden hearing loss, and it is the culprit to be blamed. Sorry about that.

Overall, you can wait before you add the third anti-hypertensive drug.

Let me know if you have further queries or need clarifications.

Wish you good health.
