Suggest Treatment For High BP While On Lisinopril
Saturday My blood pressure spike up again 170/ 99, then continue climbing that on Sunday early Morning was as a high as 212 over 113. I tried taking a second lisinopril 10mg but there was no change Went to the ER had bloodwork, Xray and EKG done all fine. They told me just wait until you speak to your doctor on monday. Went home and all day Sunday BP was around 170/101 until about 7:00 pm went the BP went down to 150/90.
Should I consider switching to Amlodipine and follow my Cardiologist? Not sure what is causing these spikes
Also on Metoprolal 50mg for bloop pressure and PVC and Paxil 10mg for anxiety
The spikes have no relationship to anxiety
Switch to amlodipine and benzodiazepene!
Thanks for choosing HCM for your query!
Yes you should switch over from Lisinopril to amlodipine as suggested by your cardiologist.Mild variation in blood pressure is normal through out the day but variation of blood pressure +_10mm of hg is significant.
Axiety can be of two type -
Many times it seems that anxiety is not the issue but subconscious or hidden anxiety may be related to increased blood pressure spikes.
As off now i would advice you to switch on to amlodipine from lisinopril for few days. You can also ask your cardiologist or physician to add low doses of antianxiety medication benzodiazepenes(clonazepam) for a few weeks.
Monitor your blood pressure twice daily.Your body will take few days to adapt to new medications. So don't panic .Give your body a few weeks with new medicines.
I have taken clonazepam half pill of .5 , with no effect on BP. I use Clonazepan when I fly, have trouble sleeping and if I feel an anxiety attack coming
I took the.5 amlodipine with my usual 25mg Metoprolal CR last night and so far this morning pressure was 127/83

Don't panic your b.p is good just give your body some time to adapt to new medicines! You can use clonazepam on as and when required basis.
