Question: My BP was 161/79 today, I have never had high pressure in my life, I am 62 and weigh 235, 5 7. I have been heavier and never a problem, could it be high because I am in pain from bunion surgery that I had 6 months ago. There is still swelling and pain. maybe because I had a infection after the surgery. Dr. doen't know why it still swells. But I am in some pain.

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thanks for sending the question.

It is possible that your blood pressure elevation might be related to pain. However, if your blood pressure remains significantly elevated for a long period of time this may need to be addressed with medication.

at this point I would also recommend that you pay good attention to your diet and minimize added salt. You might also consider incorporating some regular exercise into your daily routine. This can slowly help to lower your average blood pressure over time.

I would recommend that you follow up with your doctor in the next couple of weeks. if your blood pressure remains elevated your doctor might consider putting you want to low-dose medication to keep it under better control.

Thank you again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
