Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: hello Doctor,

My father is 59 years old and has been suffering from high BP and diabetes since last 15 years.
For last 7 years, he has also been suffering with Thyroid as well.
He has been taking medicines for the same.
Today, he went through couple of blood tests and urine tests.
I am attaching the reports for the same.
Please let me know if there is anything really serious and should seek immediate attention.
Please suggest what course of treatment he should follow now as we see that few levels are really higher than normal.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Need to consult nephrologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.

After going through your father's blood test reports & mentioned history -
- TSH within acceptable limit I may suggest to continue current medicine for thyroid.
- Acceptable Hemoglobin and other parameters in hemogram.
- Deranged Lipid level need to increase dose of statin (Lipid lowering medicine) if already on treatment or may suggest to start it if currently not on treatment.
- Deranged Renal profile for which I may suggest
1) Need to modify antidiabetic medicine considering Renal safety.
2) Blood pressure control.
3) Retinopathy screening by ophthalmologist.
4) investigations like HbA1c, urine albumin creatinine ratio, ultrasound of abdomen and pelvis.
5) Consult nephrologist.
- Blood sugar levels need to be modified considering current blood sugar levels, HbA1c level & Renal status. Better to consult his treating diabetologist.

Hope this helps.
