Suggest Treatment For Herpes Sores

Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: about 40 days ago I took a few sips out of a bottle after someone who had a bump on their lip that looked like a Herpes Sores. I have asked what is the likelihood of contracted oral HSV from this and from what i have been told it is very low - if any chance.
1. I can't stop thinking about this
2. can't stop checking my lip
3. checking the inside of my mouth
4. I haven't kissed my wife or daughter since this took place and made them aware of the situation.

I completed an STD test about 10 days after the incident which came back negative, so I know if I do contract oral HSV it from this instance. I guess am I am looking for another opinion on if i could of contracted HSV-1 and what i need to do in order to get my mind off this. I am sure that the constant checking of my lips and mouth will eventually cause myself to get sick or an infection. I need to get my life back and i miss kissing my wife and daughter

Brief Answer:
The risk of transmission is extremely low.You can ignore it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I understand your query and concern.

The risk of acquiring HSV 1 from oral contact of inanimate objects is extremely low.

You can literally rule out such possibility once the test came back negative.

Viruses never survive on inanimate objects.

Hence the risk of transmission is extremely low.

You can now stop checking your lips and mouth.

Now get this off from the back of your mind.

You can resume your normal lifestyle.

For a safest note,a single tab of Valacyclovir 1000 mg twice a day for 2 days can be useful in cases of symptomatic herpes labialis ex itching, crusting, pain and ulceration.

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Test 2 weeks after exposure and retest 3 months later.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir.

I Understand your query and concern.

Let me explain:

The window period for herpes antibodies to develop after infection can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months.

In the early stage of infection, antibodies may not reach detectable levels. This can vary from person to person.

So, for this reason, it is possible to get a false-negative result.

If you believe you have been infected, test 2 weeks after exposure, then retest 3 months later to confirm your status.

There is also a very small chance of a false-positive results.
If you believe that your risk for herpes is very low, it is recommended to have another test done at a later date to confirm the results.

Thank you.

You have completely misunderstood me.
