Suggest Treatment For Hematoma On The Buttock
Question: Hi doctor, I have a large hematoma on my right buttocks since XXXXXXX It does not hurt. And it has dissipated slightly but hard lumps still there. Will it heal eventually?
Thank you.
If you say yes, the hematoma will heal eventually. How long do you estimate?
Also, I had cataract surgery in XXXXXXX on my left eye and I have flickering in my left eye when there is indoor light or sunlight. Will it go away?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Soft tissues ultrasound should be done.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thank you for the query.
Usually hematoma dosappears without medical attention by itself. It takes up to 4 weeks (its a slow process). However in some cases large fluid collections can appear. In such case without drainage, abscess can appear.
That is why I suggest you to consult your doctor and have soft tissues ultrasound.
Eye flickering should go away by itself.
Hope this helps.
Regards.

I guess you missed what I said. Four weeks would have been wonderful.
I now have the hematoma for more than SIX MONTHS.. My doctor recommends
ANOTHER cat scan. The first one was done in Aug. Should I do the cat scan or ultrasound? My doctor recommended a second cat scan.
Would that be your recommendation?
And I have the eye twitching in left eye from cataract surgery for 7 months. I hesitate to do the right eye because it would be awful if that flickered too.
Thanks Dr. Stanko

Brief Answer:
AngioCT should be done.
Detailed Answer:
That changes a lot. I have missed that you have it for so long. In such case, you should go for a CT scan for sure. But not the regular one. You should have a CT called angio CT. This type of CT can visualize possible bleeding from the artery.
As the hematoma is present for so long, there must be some arterial bleeding. Otherwise it would be gone long time ago. If such blood vessel is identified, can be obstructed with a procedure called embolisation (done without any surgery).
It would be also good to check your INR and consider switching cumadin to heparin for the hematoma treatment time.
If its about twitching, indeed it lasts too long. And it may stay like that especially if its about sunlight reaction. You should try dark glasses, and give it some more time (a year from the surgery). The eye can adjust to new situation, however it may stay like that for ever.

Thank you Doctor. But I have another question. After the cataract surgery, 6/4/16, I developed swelling under the eye. It is now 8 months later and I still have it. I was reading something about a condition called uveitis (spelling?). Can you tell me more about it? Thank you.
Brief Answer:
This does not seem to be uveitis.
Detailed Answer:
Uveitis is rather something very progressive and does not stay the same for such long time. The main reason of this condition remains unknown. For sure, pathological reaction of immune system against uvea is the main problem. Eye redness and worsening of seeing are the main symptoms of this condition.
Your swelling can be a reaction to the new, artificial lens. Most likely temporal usage of steroids should help with this problem.
