Suggest Treatment For Heavy And Irregular Vaginal Bleeding

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: I am 55 and haven't had a period in 5 to 6 years and started spotting and a little bleeding on and off for two months. I went to my doctor he said everything looked good even did an endometrial biopsy. Well the spotting and a little bleeding was still on and off so he put me on prover 10 for 21 day. It's stopped the spotting a a little bleeding on the 2nd day and then on the 10 days I started bleeding again and the bleeding is really heavy for the last several days while taking and even after being off of them for 3 days the bleeding is still heavy. I have been on HRT for about 10 years also. Is this normal? My doctor is scheduling me for a DNC to make sure he hasn't missed anything.

Brief Answer:
Hemostatic agents can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The heavy and irregular bleeding that you are having can be due to a hormonal imbalance or endometrial hyperplasia. To find out the cause, D&C is necessary.
To stop the irregular bleeding that you are having you can start with hemostatic agents like Ethamsylate or tranexaemic acid after consulting your gynecologist. Additional hormonal therapy may be needed to control the bleeding.
Do start taking the iron supplements and a healthy diet to combat the blood loss from your body.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
