Question: I have a murmur that was grade 1 in 2013 - was told only to follow up if I became symptomatic. now it's closer to a grade 3, in late December I started noticing I was hearing my heartbeat and murmur in my L ear. It is very loud at times especially when I lay down at night, it is very distracting, but is it serious ?

Brief Answer:
Yes it can be serious

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mrs XXXXXXX
This is Dr Sameer, cardiologist.
Any murmer more than grade 2 can be serious & should be evaluated.
I'll recommend you to get a 2D Echo done soon and see your cardiologist.
Follow up with me too after the echo report.
I hope it was helpful.
Thanks
Take care
