Question: I am an 80 yr old woman who has just been told I have a heart murmur. My dr says I should no longer drive because I could black out at any time. Is this really true? The real problem started when I fell & hit the back of my head on a tree trunk. My dog ran & pulled me over sand & that was the result. I didn't pass out until 12 hours later. They could find nothing on all the tests. EKG was perfect. Now they say I passed out because of my heart murmur & need immediate care???

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your question.

You have pass out 12 hours after trauma and ECG was find but they found a heart murmur on cardiac examinations. One of the most common cause of faint (passing out or syncope) at your age is aortic stenosis, which has a heart murmur on heart auscultation. Aortic stenosis may be complicated with chest pain, faint and heart failure.

If you were my patient I would recommend to do a cardiac ECHO this will determine the exact cause of your heart. If everything will be normal on ECHO than you should run a tilt test.

Hope this was of help!
