Question: I am 58 years old, and was recently released from the hospitak after a 6 day stay in ICU and a additional 4 days on a regular unit. I was admitted for asthma exacerbation and COPD. I have an extensive history with respiratory infections, especially in the last year. I have had bronchitis at least 10 times and pneumonia 4 times, one of those times for 22 days (all in the past year).

I was released on March 1st. For the last 7 days or so I have been itching all over my body. The itching is severe and I have no relief. My veins are also bulging and hardening and I drink enormous amounts of water to stay hydrated. I have been waking up with headaches in the mornings. My right foot/ankle is bruised and swollen.

My breathing has improved and the asthma/COPD is manageable. However, these symptoms are getting worse and I am very concerned.

I itch constantly. During the night. All day. Every where.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of viral skin infection is more.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, we should rule out viral infection in your case.
Viral infection can cause itching all over the body and bruise and swelling of foot.
So better to consult dermatologist and get done clinical examination of your skin.
You may need antihistamine (levocetrizine or fexofenadine) and anti allergic (montelukast) combination.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Do I need to go to an urgent care? Emergency room? What do you think about it being a blood clot? When I say I am itching...I cannot being to describe the intensity of it. These are all new symptoms. I also have Hepatitis C. My lungs are clear, and I am breathing much better but I cannot stop itching. It is intense, and nothing has been able to alleviate it. I have tried some over the counter antihistamines and have also been taking baths.

I own and operate two businesses and have two children...my plate is full. I would like to know the best course of action to take care of this quickly.
