Suggest Treatment For Glare Blindness After Mountain Hiking

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Feb 2017
Question: I bought the $15 service today and posed a question but have not received any response in over 2 hours. Here's my question: today after 1 hour of vigorous mountain hiking I experienced what I'd call "glare blindness" for about 10 minutes. Also after drinking a bottle of water at the top of the mountain my voice was "foggy" for the same period. Shortly thereafter, a couple of minutes later, I was able to do 40 pushups without incident. I'm quite fit and 70 years old with no history of major illness. I have a pacemaker since 2009 and it was replaced in January of 2016. No issues with it ever. I am a male, 150 lbs, non smoker, drink maybe 2 glasses of wine each week, and I'm not on any medications. What's the source of the glare issue and voice symptom?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I am sorry for the very long delay in responding - I only now saw your question in my queue.

Reading your history here, I am wondering whether you had a small TIA, or other reason for inadequate oxygen to your brain. It's possible that you were dehydrated (the bottle of water would not have had it's effect yet). Also possible that your blood pressure was not high enough. Another possibility is that your heart was beating irregularly and not adequately delivering blood during that time.

I think you should rest tomorrow - even if you feel vigorous.

I also think you should see your doctor for an exam and to check your heart and carotid arteries (EKG, exercise stress test, carotid doppler).

Again, I am sorry for responding so late to your question.
