Suggest Treatment For Gingival Recession

default
Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Hi, I have a question about my teeth/gums. For the past few years (3-4) and more severely the past 2 - I have struggled with over consumption of alcohol. And on and off smoking. Ive noticed a problem with my gums for a while now and have been scared to go to a dentist. I know the gums have receded, and one or two of my teeth feel slightly loose. Also black spots appear on my bottom of the teeth especially while I am smoking. When I am not smoking and take better oral care of myself they mostly go away. I definitely know I need to go to a dentist, but was hooping I could send you some pictures of my teeth/gums to know if its too late to fix this, or what I will have to have done to fix when I go to the dentist?

Brief Answer:
Gingival recession, staining of teeth, get X-ray and Scaling done..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC. ..

I have gone through your query and can understand your health concerns..

Aa per your complain and through the images of teeth that you have sent me I can easily evaluate that your gums are receding (Gingival Recession ) and along with it there is staining of the teeth as there is deposition of Stains and Calculus (hard calcified deposits) near the gum line which is serving as a constant source of bacterial infection..
In short it is pointing towards Generalised Periodontics. .
If some teeth have become loose it is clear that in some areas the gums have lost the attachments with teeth and there is also destruction of underlying bone which anchors the teeth..
In Smokers as the symptoms of gum disease occurs at a later stage when the gum disease progresses much more than it appears so it is advisable to immediately consult a dentist and get evaluation and get a Full mouth X-ray that is an ORTHOPANTOMOGRAM done so that the condition of teeth and the underlying bone support can be evaluated for proceeding with the treatment. .

As of now get a full mouth SCALING done that is cleaning of teeth using an electronic devices known as Scaler so that the deposit over the teeth will be cleaned and infection will be reduced so that progression of infection and further destruction of gums and underlying bone is prevented..
An antibiotics course like Augmenting 625 mg thrice a day and Metronidazole 400 mg thrice a day and gum paint and an antimicrobial paste to massage over the gums and gargle with antimicrobial mouthwash like Chlorhexidine will also be advised by the treating dentist..
Chew a Vitamin C pellet daily for 15 days along with medications..
Once the x ray is done further treatment planning can be done if needed..

You can even send the Scan of the x-ray to me so that I can advise you further..

Completely quit smoking and drinking for a better Oral and General health. .

Hope this information helps. ..

Thanks and regards. .

Thank you. I knew there was a real problem. I know its hard to make a real judgement from just looking pictures. But what do you think the prognosis is of fixing this based on what you see? Can it be stopped? (if bad health behaviors are stopped) Will I need surgery? etc? Of course, just looking for some reassurance. Because in my mind I feel like it is too late and all my teeth are going to fall out? Is there any hope of stopping/fixing this?

Brief Answer:
Do not worry, your problem can be fixed and there will be improvement..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome again..

You need not to worry as you have slightly loose teeth that too only one or two and the recession over the teeth are also not very severe..
Once you consult a dentist and get evaluated and get an x Ray done then by seeing the x Ray only I can evaluate that surgery is needed or not as by the images you have sent it does not look like Surgery requirement but x Ray will give better diagnosis..

Once you get Scaling done, avoid smoking and alcohol and maintain a good Oral hygiene your gum health will definitely improve and you will see the difference on your own..
You should be hopeful as your problem will definitely get fixed to some extent and don't you worry all your teeth won't fall..

Hope this information helps...

Thanks and regards..

Thanks for that. I know you have to be vague because you are basing this on pictures and it will do me know good to keep asking questions. Because you don't have X-rays etc. But by fixing it. Would it most likely be the things you recommended. Or could I need surgery or grafting? Again, I am aware you can't fully make a diagnosis based on pictures. Just trying to get as much info as possible. Deinitely will make an appt with a dentist asap. Thank you again.

Brief Answer:
It will definitely be improved by the treatment l recommended..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome again...

Yes it is true that once you get the Scaling done and take the medicines and stop taking alcohol and tobacco you will definitely see the improvement and in area where there is a mild recession gums will gain some attachment back..
In case if the teeth that are slightly loose will not progress getting looser and their longevity of life will increase..
You can also ask the dentist for demonstrating a proper brushing technique so that you brush your teeth well and it will also help in maintaining better teeth and gum health..
Your teeth does not seems at the verge that they cannot improve and you can relax and proceed with getting treated before the infection progress further...

Hope this information helps..
