Suggest Treatment For Genital Warts And Herpes

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Question: I had unprotected sex with one of my married girlfriends in January 2015 following which I had initially contracted Chancroid which was treated by the antibiotics Ceftriaxone 1g intravenously for 5 days twice a day each and Doxycycline 100mg for a total number of 21 days twice a day and also Metrogyl 400mg twice a day for 3 days. Even though I got cured of the bacterial infection, I was diagnosed with Genital Warts and possible Genital Herpes a month later in March 2015.

I have also undergone the HIV Elisa Test once in January 2015 after 4 weeks of exposure and once again did a PCR HIV test 10 weeks after exposure both of which came negative. The girlfriend in question realized she is pregnant just a week after after our intercourse and she too has gotten tested for HIV twice in February and April 2015 both of which came negative.

A dermatologist has conducted a procedure twice using creams to help me get rid of the warts which seems to work initially but the warts come back again within a few weeks from the day the procedure is completed. The doctor had also administered a single shot of Interferon injection locally on my penis during my last visit on the 1st of XXXXXXX 2015.

I have also tested twice each for Syphillis and Herpes I & II both coming negative even though the doctors say that the Herpes tests can be false negative even if the infection is present in the body. I have also tested for Hepatitis B and C which came negative in March 2015.

I have had almost 4 episodes of apparent Herpes outbreaks for which I took Valacyclovir 1g once a day for 3 days which took care of the outbreaks within a few days.

I have had unexplained mild pain on occasions under both my armpits over the last few months and moderate to severe pain in my right knee at times.

I was also experiencing an on and off pain in my right groin which subsided after a 10 day course of Nucoxia 60mg twice a day and the course got over last week.

I have been extremely depressed with all this happening with me and have even contemplated suicide since I was planning to get married this year and do not know if I should, considering my state.

I have not had any kind of sexual contact with anyone since January 2015.

Lastly, for the past couple of days I have been experiencing a mild clear discharge from my penis which is a little foul smelling and I can see a single red bump in the shaft of my penis as well. What do you suggest I should do?

I can also feel a one painless bump inside my mouth under the lower lip and one under my upper lip which are not painful and which are not causing me any discomfort yet and wish to know if they are connected to my other problems or are they isolated.

I have heard and read that Olive Leaf extract is usually helpful in cases of bacterial, viral and fungal infections and I am contemplating taking an oral dose of the same and wish to know if they would interact with the Herpes medication that I take in times of an outbreak.

Last but not the least, can I ever lead a normal life again and get married and have a family? And do I need to get tested for HIV again?

Brief Answer:
HIV 1 ruled out. HIV 2 rare and to be ruled out.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Thanks for posting your query.

I can understand your concern.
HIV PCR after 4 weeks is a conclusive one. So the negative HIV PCR ruled out the possibility of HIV 1 infection. The possibility of HIV 2 infection is less than 0.5%. So not to worry about HIV. Syphilis also had been ruled out. So you are not having any major STD.
Chancroid is a totally curable condition. So not to worry about that also.
There are many people living with Genital Herpes as it is not a life threatening disease. Avoid sex during the recurrence. Wart also is not a very difficult condition to cure. So you can get married and have a happy married life.
Repeating HIV ELISA or Rapid test 3 months after that episode is recommended to confirm that you are free from HIV 2 also.

Dear Dr. XXXXXXX

Thank you for your answer to my primary questions even though you have still not answered my other questions regarding the pain I experience in my armpits and the sour smelling discharge from my penis I have experienced over the past couple of days.

Also, the bumps inside my mouth are causing me anxiety. I do realize that most people in my predicament would possibly have anxiety driven questions and I would be so grateful if you can take a minute these questions as well.

Also, is it going to help in any way if I take Olive Leaf extract?

Brief Answer:
Further examination and investigation needed. consult your physician.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.

The pain in your arm pits is not necessarily related to your sex contact or to any STD. Regarding the foul smelling discharge, it could possibly be due to STD or due to secondary infection due to improper cleaning of your inner aspect of penis, especially if you have any difficulty in retracting your foreskin. A careful examination and investigation will fix the cause and once again it is fully treatable.
If you had oral sex with that girl, then your mouth lesion could be attributed to that sex contact, otherwise unlikely to be related to your present illness. It is better to have another consultation. Olive leaf extract and other home remedies are not reliable.
