Question: Hi I am 67 years old and have had genital herpes for approx. 40 years. with an occasional occurance of 1 leision at a time possibly once a year or less. in the past year i have had an outbreak every 6 weeks or so and they seem to be getting more frequent on 1 occasion with more than 1 leision. over the years the location has steadily moved back to now when they are occuring closer to my tail bone than my vagina. what would cause this sudden increase in occurance and why the change in location? I have been perscribed Mylan Valacyclovir this year, prior to that they healed with the help of a over the counter topical cold sore cream.

Brief Answer:
Herpes infection

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you are bothered by recurrent herpes. Herpes is a virus that lives in the soft tissues of the body and the location depending on which area is infected. So for you there are several areas are infected and a new one is being manifested now. The best thing for you to treat the outbreaks is to take the valacyclovir daily as a suppression dose. If your doctor only prescribed them as needed you will need to communicate to them to increase the number so you can take a daily dose. This way you will not have any future outbreaks.
