Brief Answer:
May be gastric acid reflux

Detailed Answer:
Hi. Thank you for writing to HCM. Your symptoms appear to be due to acid reflux which could be present when you stand and move around. It may be possible that at your age the muscles along your food pipe have started to become a bit lax, hence allowing acid from the stomach to travel up when you stand or move. This can explain the bitter (acidic) taste in your mouth, nausea and dry heaves.

There may be certain precipitating conditions such as hiatus hernia or acid peptic disease that may need to be evaluated for. It is therefore my opinion that you have a gastroenterologist evaluate you with perhaps an upper GI endoscopy to identify the reasons for such reflux.

In the meanwhile you can take an antacid on empty stomach once daily till you see your physician. It is advised that you do not lie down immediately after meals and stay seated for at least 2 hours, cut down on spicy diet/tea/coffee and drink plenty of water (up to 2 litres a day)

If there is violent vomiting and headache associated then a neurological assessment is also indicated.

Hope this information helps. Do let me know if you have any further questions.
