Question: I'm male, circumcised. No sexual contact with new partner for more than 6 months. Started with suddenly having a patch of dry skin on my glans penis abt 2 months ago. Peeling it off caused a red shiny patch on it. Used hydrocortisone cream initially. Helped in making it better but no fully recovered. Went to the GP a month ago and he prescribed antibiotic cream. Not much improvement but there's only a few small red shiny dots on my glans penis now instead of the patch. Never had any discharge or itch. Went to GP again last week and he prescribed 7-day course antibiotic pills with the cream. No improvement after 6 days, still with the same few small red shiny spots. No itch or discharge. GP told me I had balanitis, but it should have been fully cleared with the antibiotics. Could it be psoriasis instead? Pls help

Brief Answer:
Simple oil gland proliferation or fordyce spots. Kindly upload few pictures

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for the small red shiny dots on glans penis.

As per the area of involvement and the related symptoms it appears to be simple oil gland proliferation only. The other possibility is of fordyce spots on the glans penis area. This doesn't appear to be related to psoriasis or any other infection including a sexually transmitted disease.

In view to help and guide you best I request you to kindly upload few good resolution pictures of the affected area. For that you have a feature on the right side of the page or else you can send the pictures at:

Brief Answer:
Normal prominent oil glands. Not related to any skin disease.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Welcome back and thanks a lot for sending the pictures.

After analyzing the pictures with best diligence let me reassure you that your eruptions are totally normal prominent oil glands and are not related to any skin disease including psoriasis.

To tell you simply regarding the condition: our skin is a multilayered structure with oil glands in it. The skin over glans penis is one of the thinnest skin in our body. It is such a thin skin that even blood vessels are visible on close examination. At certain times these glands can be more prominent due to its over activity.

In your case also these glands are more prominent and accordingly we can see the red eruptions over the glans penis area. These eruptions can be more prominent at certain times and at other times can be less prominent.

So I reassure that these are not related to anything serious or to psoriasis.

Just maintain a good hygiene and do not worry.
