default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: Hi. I'm a 31 female with high blood pressure and kidney disease (I think it's called glomerulonephritis). For nearly two months now my left foot will abruptly break out in pain if I try to put any weight on it. Sometimes it will be fine, other times it will be so painful I cannot walk. it is always my left foot, never my right. Rest does not seem to help and there are days I will wake up and the pain will already be there.

the pain is always concentrated in the same spot. right in the back side of the arch of my foot, right where it meets the heel. is there anything I can do to stop this ?

Brief Answer:
Plantar fascitis. Lifestyle modification, Medicine, footwear

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

Is the pain in the heel more in the morning, in taking your first step after getting off the bed?

Any pain in the foot or toe bones?

It is possible that you have Plantar fascitis at the base of the heel.

Use Micro cellular rubber footwear. Keep your foot dipped in XXXXXXX warm water with added salt for about 20 minutes a day to aid in drainage of swelling in that region.

Since you have kidney disease, it is advisable to avoid NSAID pain killers. You may take Tablet Paracetamol or Acetaminophen 500mg twice a day for 10 days. Keep the limb elevated.

Perform Plantar fascia and Calf muscle stretching exercises with the help of a Physiotherapist.

Do get an Xray of the foot to rule out any other causes of the pain.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
