Suggest Treatment For Fluid Filled Cyst In The Ovary
Question: I am 3 years post menopausal and I use estridol 3x a week 1/2 gram, I had a D&C 3 months ago after complaining about uterine pain the Trans Vag showed debris... D&C biopsy came out neg, recently blood with intercourse another Trans Vag, now I have a fluid filled cyst on left ovary 1.18 cm Dr. has recommended a total Hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries.... do you agree that this major surgery is necessary?

Is this the first time you had blood with intercourse ( technically called post coital bleeding ) ?
Well, a 1.18 cm fluid filled cyst is not at all an indication for a total hysterectomy and bilateral oophrectomy ( removal of both ovaries ).
The D and C with biopsy was negative as I gather 3 months back.
When did you last have a Pap smear ?
Also, I need to have a copy of the ultrasound scan report.
If you could upload the images and report, that would be a great help.
It might help me understand better why such a major surgery has been recommended.
Do you have an ominous personal / family history of cancers ?

I have had bleeding with intercourse before about 5 years ago, really just spotting at that time and post menopausal I have had it 2 times in a row the last time being quite a bit of blood.
My last pap, was with in the last year, I have never had an abnormal pap. I do not have any history of ovarian cancer in my family, my dad had non Hodgkins lymphoma.
I really don't have a way to send you the ultra sound report, as I do not have it. My doctor is a personal friend and seems to want to eliminate any risk at all of cancer.

With a negative biopsy, a normal Pap smear, and a near - normal ultrasound scan, there is absolute no risk of a cancer !
