Question: I had the flu last week. I am better but my upper back has been hurting very badly for the past two days. I have difficulty standing up straight. Is this flu related?

Brief Answer:
It's possible

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

influenza (flu) may indeed cause pain all over the body including the upper back. If the pain is not localized to a certain muscle or dermatome then the flu sounds like a good explanation for the pain, although the worst symptoms are expected during the first few days of disease.

Pain restricted to a single dermatome may raise suspicion for nerve pain like in shingles for example. Pain elicited only with certain moves can be caused by muscular strain /sprain.

The drugs you've used should help with the symptoms.

Your doctor should be able to distinguish between various potential causes and advise you accordingly.

Kind Regards!

My husband had a circumcision (he's 42) after phimosis all his life. It's been 8 months, and his glans are still too painful and sensitive to touch. He's says it feels like a toothache. I wonder if perhaps he had a low grade yeast infection under the foreskin for years going unnoticed. I read untreated yeast can grow rhizomes, and become more in the mold category, going under the top layer of skin in a woman's vagina, and having nearly no symptoms, other than vulva pain similar to what my husband is now describing. He has tried all pain meds for it, including ones for nerve pain. Suggestions on what this might be, other possibilities.... would be great.

I had Neck surgery June 2, 2014 due to pinching of C8 nerve bundle and ulnar nerve challenges on the right arm and hand. My right hand continues to be numb on the lift side of the palm, small finger, and half of the ring finger. Not too surprising as carpal tunnel developing is an issue. What is new is a tearing sensation on the upper back of my left shoulder. My right side feels stronger from shoulder to elbow. No nerve pain under right shoulder blade. Just concerned about left shoulder or just give it time? My next appointment with surgeon s PA is 6/23/2014.

Hi, my name is Michelle. I am a 19 year old and I took an MRI for my back because I was having lower back nerve pain from a college soccer injury. But when I got the results back, they said that they found nothing wrong with my lower back but instead, the doctors found a dark shadow in my right kidney. So I took an Ultra sound for it and the dark shawdow was about as big as a quater maybe a little bigger right in the center of the kidney. What does this dark shadow mean?

I have bilateral neuropathy. I have several other conditions, one of which I take gabapentin for. My neurologist recently prescribed tramadol to compliment the gabapentin for dealing with the nerve pain. Despite the fact that I found the tramadol to be effective in reducing the progressive nerve pain, I had to stop due to an adverse reaction. Today my neurologist called in a Rx for fioricet to try instead. I do not suffer from migraines. I cannot find any info online about taking fioricet for neuropathy. Any thoughts on why/how thiscdrug would be effective for dealing with nerve pain in my legs?? Thank you in advance for your time and expertise,Chronic nerve pain sufferer
