Suggest Treatment For Fibroadenoma In The Breast

Question: Hello, i write regarding my daughter. She is now 22. One year ago, she was told (by a gp) that a lump in her breast was likely a cyst. She was then away in europe for college for a year. The "cyst" seemed to grow on her, but her doctor had told her it may get bigger and then shrink, etc. she has been back in the states for a month and went to an ob gyn on monday and was told it seemed less likely that the mass was a cyst. Today she had a breast ultrasound done and ahe has a mass of about 4 cm in her breast. The radiologist told her that its most likely that she has a fibroadenoma even though the size is a bit large. He also said that its possible she has a phyllodes tumor that is likely benign although that doesnt really match her age group. Finally, he said that there is a remote possibility of something more serious. The ob gyn will read the radiology report tomorrow and discuss with my daughter. A biopsy has already been ordered and may be done tomorrow. My daughter, as far as i know, hasnt displayed any cancer symptoms. That said, how worrisome should all this be?

Brief Answer:
Fibroadenoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking

Fibroadenoma and cystic breast are very often diagnosed at young women.
For sure you should not be concerned until the biopsy results

The probability that the mass is benign it's very likely at her age.
Please keep me informed for the biopsy results

Her mom just conincifentally had a lump on breast and they did an uktrasound and found a 1 cm lump. They told her nothing to worry about and no need for a biopsy. Now my daughter is worried befause it was the exact same radiologist and she is concerned because her mom didnt need biopsy and she does. I have a few follow ups: is it likely that the size of my daughter's lump (4 cm) compared to her moms (1 cm) ia the reason my daughter needs a biopsy when her mom didnt? Is a 4 cm lump still likely to be fibroadenoma? If she had something more than an isolated lump - i.e. A condition that was spreading would it have likely been apparent on ultrasound?

We dont have formal resuilts but the radiologist suspected that it was a fiboradenoma based upon how it looks and because it was very XXXXXXX I think this is good news but dont know what the XXXXXXX part means and why that is good. Any thoughts?

Ok. Thanks. Still waiting for results from doctor. The radiologist thought the mobility of the mass was a good sign so i didnt understand that.
