Question: Hi, my daughter who's 6 just got treated today in the ER for pnuemonia. She was having fever and cough a lot over past 3 days. They gave her an X-ray and told us. They gave her antibiotics and a breathing treatment then sent us home with 600mg of antibiotics and abuetorol...my question is we are supposed to leave on vacation in 48hrs via airplane headed to Las Vegas and visiting Grand Canyon is it safe for her to travel having been recently diagnosed?

Brief Answer:
It is safe to travel

Detailed Answer:
Hi....it is safe for travel and air travel also. Only kids less than 3 months need to avoid air travel. But as your kid is 6 years old, you need not worry.

The second issue is pneumonia. As you have not mentioned anything about pneumothorax, I assume it is not so. Pneumothorax is accumulation of air in between lungs and pleura. It is a definite contraindication for air travel due to air pressure gradient.

But a recovering pneumonia like this is not a contraindication.

You can travel and do air travel also.
