Question: On Monday night I got a fever and my stomach hurt. Tuesday I woke up and felt better no fever.....went to work then came home at lunch and had some chicken noodle soup from Panera! I really didn't eat supper. Stomach still hurt a bit. Wednesday got up and felt pretty good stomach still ached not bad, ate ritz crackers and PB for lunch. After that my stomach started to hurt! Had like full feeling like full of gas and burped. Lot. Yesterday felt Hood went to a town two hours away. Ate lunch at Amigos and had nachos....well didn't eat anything after that stomach had that full gassy feeling and hurt a bit all nit. Lower tummy has been gurgling as well . Now lower tummy aches and just had yellow stool. Is there a bug going around? What are you thoughts?

Brief Answer:
could be food or virus

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
There are always gastrointestinal viruses going around but usually with those you get vomiting and or diarrhea. Bad food could also be a cause. The best things to do are to avoid spicy or acidic foods (like citrus, coffee) and see if this resolves. Taking antacids could also help.
If the pains persist you may be dealing with something like an ulcer.
If the pain gets severe or if you develop high fevers see a doctor immediately. If you have blood in the stool or have black tarry stools then this would also be a reason to see a doctor right away.
Hopefully it is just some minor stomach irritation and will clear up on its own in a few days, but if it does not, make sure to see a doctor.
I wish you the best,
Dr. Robinson

Is there something I can take? I haven't got sick or diahrrea but have soft stools. Along with fullness in my stomach my bowls are like gurgling like maybe it could happen.

Brief Answer:
things to try

Detailed Answer:
There are a couple things you could try.
You could take something stronger than tums for acid like zantac or prilosec for a few days to see if that helps.
The only medication that seems to help with gas is simethicone. It can be purchased at the pharmacy in many forms like GasX or sometimes combined with an antacid like maalox.
Intestinal viruses usually last 3-5 days at the most with the majority of them gone in 72 hours.
I hope you are feeling better soon

Brief Answer:
simethicone for gassiness

Detailed Answer:
Simethicone, as found in GasX and other preparations is best for the gas. If you still have symptoms after 3-4 days, then see your doctor.
