Question: My daughter is 37 and has suffered for years but her symptoms are progressing and she has been to many doctors who cannot diagnose her. She suffers from extreme fatigue, irregular heartbeat (but not always), swollen, hard nodules that have been biopsied and scanned, depression, chronic body aches, and always has a very high white count indicating infection. She has also had many weird illness where her face swelled and distorted almost like bells palsy, has had eye tear duct infections, skin MRSA, but mostly her fatigue is now at a point where she can barely function. Please help.... her TSH is normal. She also suffers from insomnia and depression and takes meds for both. She catches every cold or flu going around, but none of the doctors refer her to an immunologist. What can she do? I am so worried.

Brief Answer:
A complicated case that needs some specialists.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Sorry to learn about the bothersome symptoms of your daughter.
Many of the symptoms (Fatigue, insomnia, fast heart beat ect) may be due to depression.
Thyroid nodules are very common in population and if they do not secrete too much hormones and the biopsy results normal, than there is no need to worry.
The fact that she is very sensitive to infections means a deficiency of her immune system.
A careful clinical examination and inspection of her tests ( done until now) is very important.
If there is impossible to see an immunologist than an infectionist would be helpful.
Wish her good health.
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta

Because her fatigue has recently gotten so severe and her heart has been racing what does that indicate? Is she in danger? Also she has been on ambien for years and a combination of antidepressants. Could those be causing her fatigue?

Brief Answer:
See below.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back!
A low blood pressure or anemia may be the cause of the fatigue and high heart rate. An ECG is necessary to get more information regarding to cardiac rhythm.
Regarding to the side effects of the antidepressants it depends on the dose and the combination. If she has been taking high doses and some combinations than fatigue may be a side effect of them.
Risperdal may cause an elevation of white blood cells.

Dr.Mirjeta
