Suggest Treatment For Eye Problems In A Child

Question: My son is making some strange movements of eyes which we are not able to understand. Following are some of those movements:
1. He blinks his eyes repeatedly for 15-20 seconds.
2. He closes his eyes and makes impressions as if he is stretching his eyes. he is also not looking straight bi side ways while continously moving his head here and there.
3. Moving his eyes upwards for 1-2 seconds.

Mostly those movements are done while watching rhymes on tablet. Also these movements are not done if rhyme is new. These movements also happen when we expose his eyes to torch. exposure to torch was suggested by a occupational therapist saying that he has peripheral vision problem that can be corrected by torch exposure. When he is bored then also he does these.

Is this due to some problems in eye sights? How can we get that checked? Please suggest a good pediatric ophthalmologist in XXXXXXX who we can visit. Please suggest one who can handle 2 year old baby.

Meanwhile can you please tell su what could it be? what should be do? Should we stop rhymes?

Brief Answer:
This requires eye examination to rule out common eye problems.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history and I can understand your concerns. These problems can occur in many of the simple eye problems which are common in children.

These movements of the eye ball can occur in case of refractive error. These also can be a part of seizures as mentioned by your pediatric doctors.

However as an ophthalmologist I would like to rule out the ocular causes like refractive error, allergies of the eye....

This requires basic eye examination by ophthalmologist to look for these common problems. Stopping the rhymes is not a solution, you should continue it and you need to consult eye doctor for basic eye examination including vision and refraction testing.

In XXXXXXX you can consult Centre for Sight eye hospital for eye examination.

Hope this answers your question. Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
