Suggest Treatment For Eye Floaters Along Flashes In Vision

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: My nearsighted eyes often see floaters and flashes. I have been seeing them for the past four years or more. I also occasionally get migraines with auras. Normally the flashes are very quick but sometimes especially upon standing or sitting quickly I will get longer lasting flashes that go away and repeat themselves when I blink for the next couple of minutes. What could this be?

Brief Answer:
Vitreoretinal disease, most likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The symptoms you described w.r.t the flashes and floaters indicate a vitreoretinal degeneration leading to traction. However such floaters can be associated with migraines. The 12-item screening tool mechanism for chronic migraine (defined as 15 or more migraine episodes a month), should be applied and treatment started subsequently. However based on your previous queries, a retina specialist should be consulted to do fundoscopy and advise IOP ( Intraocular pressure) measurements, OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) to rule out any ocular pathology. If no evidence of retinal detachment or vision loss due to glaucoma is there then regular follow up at least 4 to 6 months back should be kept to monitor the situation with respect to the floaters and flashes symptoms.

wishing you best of health

thanks
