Brief Answer:
Possibility of androgenetic alopecia; minoxidil & finasteride are approved

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

You seem to have androgenetic alopecia also known as male pattern androgenetic alopecia.

Hair loss in androgentic alopecia involves mainly front and vertex part of the scalp. Hair loss is also associated with thinning or miniaturization of hair follicles.
Hair loss in androgenetic alopecia is also associated with gradual recession of anterior hair line.

Hair loss and thinning from angles of anterior hair line gives rise to wider and deeper angles (thus giving rise to a V shaped anterior hair line).

Family history is positive in most and but is not necessarily present in first degree family members like father, brother.
Positive family history in grandparents, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces or half-siblings is also significant.

Minoxidil and finasteride have approval for use in this type of alopecia.

While Minoxidil is a non-specific hair growth promoter, oral Finasteride is specific for androgenetic alopecia in males.

Finasteride inhibits the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in hair follicles. DHT is the main culprit responsible for hair loss and thinning in this type of hair loss.

Results are usually noticeable over a period of 6-12 months of regular topical and oral treatment.
The results are maximal at 1-2 years of combined treatment (Oral + topical) and then may be maintained with just Oral treatment.

The goal with this therapy is to arrest or slow down further progression.
New hair regrowth is an added advantage but the response to treatment varies from individual to individual.
Regrowth is usually good if the problem is not a long standing one.

Therefore, the aim is to start treatment as early as possible so as to arrest progression.
Improvement thus achieved has to maintained with life long treatment i.e once daily finasteride with or without once daily or alternate day minoxidil application.

These are all prescription medications, therefore, I suggest you to visit a dermatologist in your vicinity for the needful.
