Question: My torso feels like it's in a tight wrap, or like someone filled my torso with air like a balloon.
I've had this feeling off and on for about 2 years. It has been 3 days since this one started.
(I have complained to my doctor, but he told me it was old age, female problems, or the fix was too horrible to go through...but did not test or treat me at all. I have a new physician, but don't see him until March 3rd.)

Brief Answer:
Detail below

Detailed Answer:
The most likely cause of your symptoms is excessive gas in the abdomen. About half of gas in the digestive system is swallowed air.The rest is produced by bacteria in the gut that help digest food.
Secondly it could be due to disease which causes intestinal inflammation.viral or bacterial gastroenteritis, which causes inflammation of the stomach and bowel. intestinal obstruction in which the intestine is blocked and digested material cannot move through the digestive tract. irritable bowel syndrome.
As you have this feeling of and on from many years few investigations should be done to find the exact cause-
Ultra sound abdomen.
Ambulatory PH monitoring.
Stool routine and microscopy.

Till the time tests are done take Nexium 40mg twice daily to relieve you from gas and tightness. An antacid like Pepto-Bismol can also be taken to provide symptomatic relief.
Few general instructions are-
Don't Eat Too Much at a Time split your meals,Avoid Swallowing Air and Gases while eating,Don't Eat heavy spicy or fatty food,Try a Low FODMAP Diet,Restrict Sugar and Alcohol,Take Digestive Enzyme Supplements.

My child has trisomy 18. Overall, she s in very good health. She s 7 years old. She s currently taking colozol for intestinal inflammation, florastor, vit d and a multi vitamin every day. Within the past two weeks, I ve noticed that she had dark brown spots in her stool. I was told it could be c-diff or perhaps blood? Is this very dangerous and can it be taken care of easily or could this be a potential problem for her.

I am a 35-year-old Caucasian male. I was diagnosed by a GI specialist with Celiac Disease in December 2007 on the basis of a single mildly elevated anti- gluten antibody blood test; the doc did not order a biopsy . I had a history of GI pains (since youth) and skin complaints since mid-teens, especially on the back of my hands. I found a new GP in Febraury 2008, and he was suspicious of the Dx without a positive biopsy result, so he ordered the biopsy. It came back negative - and only then did my GP inform me that false-positive biopsies do exist, owing to patchiness of the intestinal inflammation characteristic of Celiac Disease. He didn t appear to have the guts to say I ve celiac disease or not. Do I or do I not have celiac disease? My gut pain has vanished since putting on 50 pounds of bodyweight since September 2010, and I am eating wheat nearly everyday; I understand the under-weight are more susceptible to infections and ulcers , so perhaps I was mildly malnourished at 165 pounds. I was 165 pounds for my entire adult life - again, until September 2010 when I began putting on the 50 pounds. Thanks, Rich Toronto, Ontario
