Suggest Treatment For Excessive Burping And Recurring Bouts Of Diarrhea And Constipation

default

Question: My husband is currently on hold from Chemo for colon cancer. Easter Sunday they removed a tumor outside his colon, gallbladder, appendix, and part of his colon and restructured his colon. Even before the surgery he was really tired all the time, excessive burping, bouts of diarrhea and constipation, and a sick stomach after eating, restless legs. I know chemo causes some of these symptoms, but he has been off chemo for a month (they put him on hold because he was so tired.) He still has these symptoms, lower back pain, and now numbness to the point of pain in his upper legs. He has prostate cancer, but they put the radiation treatment on hold until he gets finished with the chemo for the colon. When they removed the tumor, he was cancer free, but 4 lymph nodes tested positive. What could be causing all these symptoms besides the chemo?

Brief Answer:
His symptoms due to both metastatic colon/prostate cancers&chemo...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through the medical history of your husband and am sorry for the health problems he is going through.

Let me recapitalize his case:
- 74 years old male
- personal history of colon/prostate cancer; already done surgery for colon cancer on Easter Sunday
- symptoms: tired all the time; excessive burping, bouts of diarrhea and constipation; sick stomach after eating; restless legs.

1. As he has experienced such symptoms even before colon surgery, altogether they are related to cancer itself.

As the tumor is growing, it will:
- obstacle the normal bowel passage; After each eating, the bowel will start moving (normal peristalsis); if there is an obstacle, food cannot pass normally inside the bowels, and make him feeling his stomach sick with burping.

If food is not well digested, it would cause bouts of diarrhea following constipation.

2. Apart colon cancer, prostate cancer is also giving the symptoms of lower back pain, numbness in upper legs due to compression of nearby nerve complex from the cancer mass.

Unfortunately, if 4 lymph nodes are being confirmed as cancer, they are sign of metastasis which can be suggestive of further spread of cancer and for the symptoms to keep being present.

Prostate cancer itself is also causing compression on the bowels aggravating the GI symptoms he is already having.

3. Chemo drugs are still concentrated in blood and they can give side effects.
However, in his case, the two types of cancer are getting all his energy and nutrients causing the persistent feeling of tiredness and with potential to keep spreading.

I understand you want him to be fine, but consider his health problems, you should be strong and encourage him to be strong too to face his hard battle against cancers.

I wish him fast recovery and good luck to all of you.
