Suggest Treatment For Esophageal Spasms Associated With Cardiac Arrhythmia

Posted on Mon, 18 Jul 2016
Question: At my wits end.. have food intolerances that do not show up on traditional scratch testing. But I get headache's, rashes, dysphonia, and even anaphylaxis type responses (tachy and cold) The main trouble now is esophageal spasms with a cardiac arrhythmia. Feels like my esophagus is swelling and creating pressure in my chest. Negative cardiac blood work, ekg normal once the spasm stops. Also comes with chills and generally not feeling well. Benadryl helps. Had a scary situation while hiking in the wilderness. This all happened at once, likely accelerated from the elevation difference. Had to get help. Explained that I thought it was more GI related than cardiac although my EKG was all over the place. Gave me some versed, felt the spasms go away and came back into a sinus rhythm. Trying to pinpoint the foods, etc. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Get done blood allergic testing.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the detailed history you have provided.
Basically you are having esophageal spasm associated with cardiac arrhythmia.
You are also having food allergy.
For food allergy, skin scratch test is not much reliable.
Blood test for food allergy is more accurate and will give you list of foods which cause allergy in you. This will also pinpoint you about the foods you should avoid.
For esophageal spasm, I advice you to undergo upper GI (gastrointestinal) scopy and manometry (pressure studies of esophagus) for the further evaluation of spasm.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
