Question: I had two coronary stents implanted on 7/10/17 and have been taking Pavix and Lipitor daily since then. I have pre-diabetes and my blood glucose average has been 115 up to the surgery. during the past week it averages 122; this morning it was 118, HOWEVER all evening it has been around 200. I have never had it above 150.
the only thing I ate around 5:00 was some chips and a beer.
Why has it suddenly jumped to 200?? I'm very concerned about this sudden increase.
Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
chips and beer contain a lot of carbs

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is understandable to be concerned since it is not normally at this level.

Though it is higher than normal, it is important to remember that the definition of prediabetes involves fasting blood sugars of 100 to 125 and a 2 hour post meal of 140 to 199.

If your reading was done more than 2 hours after you ate then it is definitely too high but this would be related to the carbs in the meal.
Chips and beer would both contain carbs, chips are basically mostly carbs and beer is known to raise blood sugar.

Either of these would cause an abnormal increase especially in someone who is already a prediabetic.

Since it is not at a danger level, you can monitor it tomorrow. You should do a fasting blood sugar and also consider a 2 hour after at least one or more of your meals to get an idea of your blood sugar levels and determine if you have become diabetic.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
