Question: Hi Doctor,

I have excema and especially very cold or summer time it gets worse and itchy. Even a little scratch gets infected and eventhough it dries afterwards it leaves unplesant dark patches/marks in that area. I have it like that all over my body. My skin also prone to hyper pigmentation so it gives black/dark spots. Is there are any remedy for removing these marks and how can I prevent myself from infected again? Is it in anyway (excema/hyperpigmentation) will be linked to skin cancer in future?

Brief Answer:
Avoid sun, avoid possible irritants.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

Eczema is caused due to your tendency of allergies or your sensitive skin which gets that reaction while in contact with allergens/irritants.
The best prevention is to avoid the causing irritant, if you are able to understand that. There are some allergy tests that will inform you what are you allergic from so if possible you can avoid these irritants. Of course, this is not always possible. It may also be less sensitive with the time and you may have less and less eczema.
Then when you have the eczema you can use steroid creams or natural oils to help make it better and heal faster.

Less times of having the eczema, less hyper pigmentation you will have.
Also, using suncream, hats, avoid being directly in the sun may help prevent it.

There is no risk of skin cancer because of eczema. Your risk is the same as that of other people with the type of your skin.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks doctor,

I get black dots/spots all of a sudden in my palm or hands. I checked with a doctor before and he said it's hyper pigment nevus. Is that common? Can I use SPF 30 moisturiser or anything higher than that needed?

Brief Answer:
Cream with spf 30 is enough in your hands.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for the follow-up question.

It is not common to have neavuses and I don't think they are neavuses. But they may be hyperpigmentation because it is common after sun exposure in people with light color skin.

Yes, a sunscreen with spf 30 would help a lot.
You can apply a cream with spf 50 in the face only.
