Posted on Thu, 12 Mar 2015
Question: I have had eczema for 6 wks starting 7th. treated on my own nutritional for 4 1/2 wks. Went to Dr. due to family request. They prescribed prednisone 10 mg. After 1st day ankle and arch of feet started swelling to the fact of being unable to walk. They placed me on ferosidmide for 3 days. I could only take for 2 full days. Swelling started going down on 5th day. I have noticed more itching than prior. Welps/sores have gone down. They want me to stay on for 9 days with decreasing dosage. Any other suggestions. I am soaking with oatmeal baths (2) @ day. Using a lot of Coconut cold pressed extra virgin oil with Thyme following each bath. I work with natural products as much as I can. XXXX

Brief Answer:
Eczema

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM...

You said you suffer from eczema on feet. There may be mild to severe itching. And you said that feet were swollen. Probably that might be due to secondary bacterial infection.

I think you may be having lichen simlex chronicus , a form of eczema characterised by dry, tough and thick skin lesion. There may be severe itching. Secondary bacterial infection may be the complication. Oedema might occur due to infection. And that might be increased by walking and standing for long time.

You consult dermatologist. Have blood tests to rule out DM,Anaemia and other internal diseases.

I would like to suggest following line of treatment...

- antihistaminics like tab levocetirizine daily at night
- oral antibiotic for short period to reduce infection
- apply cream of antibiotic with mild steroid
- cleanse the area with antiseptic like dettol
- keep the affected legs elevated while sleeping

You have taken oral steroid. Please tapper it gradually if you are taking still. In future please avoid oral steroid as it might cause adverse effect at this age.

Avoid all factors which you suspect for exacerbation of eczema.

I hope you this would be helpful to you in managing your disease.

Thanks.

I am sorry for the clarification of length of problem. It started 6 wks ago on arms, back, neck, (2-3 wks) then stomach and complete back and buttucks, then moved in 5th wk to legs front and back then down to ankles and arch of feet. I went to the Dr's upon detriment of breakout on legs then feet. I am aware this is due to the walking and placing pressure on them. Does this still have the same answer/response?

Brief Answer:
Eczema, contact allergic dermatitis...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back,

You suffer from eczema or contact allergic dermatitis. You may be having atopic diathesis. You are likely to develop dermatitis on various parts of the body. The disease might regress or recur according to the exposure or contact of allergens.

You contact dermatologist and have discussion about your problem. If possible, go for allergy test. Avoid contact with allergens.

And you may follow the line of treatment as I suggested in previous post.

I hope you got my answer.

Thanks.
