Suggest Treatment For Ear And Throat Pain
Question: Pain on left side affecting ear and back of throat (tounsil?). Only affects left side. No problem eating or swallowing. Originally told I had MTD (Muscle Tension Disphnia). Went to ENT. He said it was paralysis of left vocal cord. Went to Voice Therapy. Vocal cord repaired itself. Still painful. Six months later told I had small ulcer on left vocal cord. Steroid spray. Six months laer botox. In September I was told the ulcer had healed itself. Still have pain but now it is focused in ear and I think my left tounsil. The ENT put his finger on it when he examined me and said everything felt normal. I have been living with this for 2.5 Years now. Should I have my tounsils removed? Sometimes the pain goes away if I take enough Advil. Hoping you can shed some light on this painful situation.

As for the current issue, it can be peritonsillar abscess or infection extending into soft tissue in pharngeal recess or any signs due to nerve compressions or other compressions symptoms in sorrounding area. if it had been simple tonsillitis it would have been picked up by the ENT specialist on examination.
The best initial step should be to get blood screened for complete blood count for white blood cells count and ESR and CRP to look for any indications of sever infections. If it seems to be the case the next options would be to go for CT or MRI of head and neck with enhancement of middle ear and Paranasal sinuses. If would further clarify the situation.
Meanwhile you can continue using analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen alongwith anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine. As for this moment unless infection is proven need for surgery of tonsils or antibiotics isn't indicated.
