Suggest Treatment For Duodenal Ulcers While On Nexium

Posted on Wed, 15 Feb 2017
Question: I have a deudendal ulcer & had been taking Nexium, but it seemed to not be working as well as it did so I switched to Dexilant, but now I have stomach pain & everything I eat goes right through me. I didn't have that with Nexium so should I go back on Nexium which is 20 mgs. twice a day?

Brief Answer:
Start probiotic intake.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

First of all you should be tested for possible (very possible) H.Pylori infection. Without it, any treatment can fail.
The symptoms you have right now are caused by a presence of bacteria in small bowel and lack of good bacteria in large intestine.
Please note that stomach acid protects you against bacteria. Blocking the acid production, you allow bacteria to get inside. That is why you have diarrhea.
I suggest you to do not switch drugs by yourself. For now, you should rather continue Nexium. And please start probiotic intake.

Hope this helps.
Regards.

I've been checked for the H.Pylori infection - I don't have it. I also do take a probiotic every day. Thank you - I will continue to take my Nexium & hope my food stays with me!

Brief Answer:
You are welcome.

Detailed Answer:
If H.Pylori is ruled out than you need to give it some more time with Nexium.
