Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough In An Infant

Question: Hi doctor..my baby is of 11 months n dry coughing for last 3 days and he is taking maxtra syrup. Last night, doctor suggested to take montair LC kid. But still there is no relief. Please suggest for dry cough?

Thanks for writing back.

Fever in babies is most frequently caused due to certain viral infections. Irrespective of treatment, such episodes last for 5-7 days. I would not get worried if the child is otherwise active and fine. However, if the child develops wheezing or becomes lethargic, you will have to rush him to a doctor without delay.

Maxtra is the right medicine for him. No harm if Montair LC Kid is given as an alternative. Giving steam inhalation should be helpful. Just sit with the child in your lap and place the source of steam before you. Water in the form of vapour will enter deep inside and will help in diluting the cough and would provide relief.
