Suggest Treatment For Dry Cough And Tightness In The Chest

default
Posted on Mon, 4 Jul 2016
Question: I am a 29 year old female, non smoker. I have had a very dry irritating cough for about a week and a half now. I was thinking that I recently developed allergies and was going to pick up medicine to treat that. However, overnight I was woken up by a tightness/pain in the right side of my chest, much like the feeling I had when I had bronchitis a couple years ago. I am not sure if I should continue to let this run its course or see my provider

Brief Answer:
Better to consult your doctor.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you should definitely consult your doctor and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. PFT (pulmonary function test)
3. Chest x ray.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.. Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
So please let me know.
1. Have you ever undergone PFT?
2. Have you ever undergone chest x ray?
Please reply me answers of above asked questions, so that I can guide you better.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

No, I have never had a PFT or chest x ray. The main time I feel the tightness/pain is when I bend over at the waist (picking something up) or lie straight on my back. I do feel it every now and then after a coughing fit.
