Posted on Fri, 3 Feb 2017
Question: Hello I've have a cold for about 3 weeks. The last week has just been a dry cough and not feeling well overall. How long should I expect this to last?
Started off like a regular cold. Morphed into a bacterial infection with yellow/green mucus. Now just the lingering cough.

Brief Answer:
Wait for one more week

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

The cough in a common cold usually lasts 2-3 weeks more then the other symptoms. Sometimes it may last for 4 weeks in people who are or have been smokers or in people where the common cold gets complicated with a bacterial infection.

The most important thing in these cases it is to be in a good general condition, not to have fever and not to start getting worse. Because if this would be the case, would mean that you are having another backterial infection, or the past one it was not cured totally.

My recommendation is that you wait for one more week, drink plenty of fluids, teas with honey and foods with vit C. If not better then its time to see a local physician so they can check your lungs.

Hope this is helpful.
