Question: I am concerned for a friend who has not gone for her colonoscopy. She has pencil like stools and cannot feel her bowel movement coming on. She sits on the toilet and kinda waits will she has one. She went to a clinic and they told her it was Diverticulitis and put her on Cipro a week ago. I don't understand how they knew it was that or why they put her on Cipro. Is the the usual treatment or should see get in to see a gastro. Doc ASAP. This has been going on for a month..

What could be wrong with her?

Brief Answer:
Hello. Cipro would be appropriate for diverticulitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Diverticulitis can be presumed from symptoms and exam alone, but the definitive diagnosis is mad with an abdominal ct scan. But constipartion and thin stools are more of an indication of colon cancer and she needs a colonoscopy ASAP. This could be irritable bowel syndrome/constipation, but it would also require colonoscopy to diagnose that. Please let me know if you need any more information.
