Brief Answer:
Follow liquid diet as recommended by your doctor&add probiotic until Monday

Detailed Answer:
Hi Jwidset,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

Diverticulitis is the infection of diverticula, the small pockets formed inside your bowels.

Antibiotics like cipro and flagyl are the best drug therapy used in this case. Unfortunately, their use is accompanied by the alteration in intestinal flora. This will add more troubles in diverticulitis. Therefore, I advise to start probiotics that will help stabilize altered intestinal flora.

Furthermore, diet is extremely important in managing the flare up. Liquid diet as recommended by your doctor should be strictly followed. I agree with her advise to use chicken broth instead of beef broth.

Next, try to take more water, cucumber/other fruits juice; Marshmallow root tea and chamomile tea can also help ease the symptoms. Avoid adding too much sugar.

Try to follow these advice until you see GI specialist on Monday for further evaluation and a more specific treatment.

Let me know if I can be of further help!

Thank you: what you say is helpful. I already take a probiotic with 30 million strains/or whatever. Should I take more?

Also, the night my stomach roiled so much was after I had some strong beef broth and a cup of tea with a lot of honey in it. So I asked her about the sugar. and i have been using lifesaver candys to deal with slight nausea after taking the meds (ciproand flagyll)

Brief Answer:
Not necessary to add more probiotics...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Ok, the probiotic you take containing 30 million strains is ok, not to increase. Just take twice or thrice daily and see if improvement. Otherwise, just once daily.

The strong beef broth was high in fat, that has worsened your stomach roiling precipitated from antibiotics use. Your bowels could not digest it. Avoid that in the upcoming days.

Furthermore, can use honey in moderation not adding too much as that will also aggravate roiling.

All the best and wish fast recovery my dear. Let me know if you have other questions.

Brief Answer:
Market store or drug store...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

You can buy cucumber, put in a juicer and extract the juice. Can mix with a bit of fennel leaves or seeds. Can find in a market store.

Marshmallow root can find in a drug store or market store. Can prepare the tea yourself by mixing 5 g of marshmallow root with a cup of hot water, let stay until cooled. Or follow the instructions given in the label.

All the best. If no more questions please close this discussion and give a five star feedback if happy with my answer.
