default
Posted on Fri, 17 Apr 2015
Question: History:
My Father had undergone angioplasty, suffering from diplopia, Opthalmic tests did not come out with anything related to eyes. Both opthalmologist and cardiologist suggested a neurologic opinion. Neurlogist after taking MRI, diagnosed brain imfarct and attributed double vision and unclear speech effect of this.
Present State :
He has trouble moving around due to double vision although he goes for an evening walk for around 1.5 to 2 kilometers everyday with my mother. He is getting very depressed these days, complains of burning sensation in esophagus, constipation, sits quite most of the time.
I do not know what course of action to take. Please help and suggest.

Brief Answer:
family support and psychiatrist opinion

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX welcome to HCM. Thanks for choosing us.

I share your concerns. Firstly there's no treatment for brain infarct (although patient improves over the time), which is responsible for your father present condition. Diplopia is troubling him much in his day to day activities, which is resulting in to depression. Burning sensation in oesophagus is due to acidity, which is directly related to depression. Constipation is again related to depression.

Since diplopia can not be corrected as it is related to brain infarct, we need to focus on management of his condition in a holistic way. He requires family support both physically and mentally. He needs to be taken for walk daily by anyone without fail, so please continue this. He needs to be given antacids (rantac) for oesophagus burning and plenty of fluids, fibres or medications for constipation. For mental wellbeing you need to take care of his needs like attention, affection, sense of importance, recreation and good nutrition.

However for depression you need to take an opinion from psychiatrist. Treatment will include councilling and medications.

I hope my reply will benefit you in taking care of health of your father. I wish you and your family a good health. Please write to HCM or me for follow up queries. Thank you
