Question: Hello, i hope i will get a good answer to my problem.I have broke my left femur 6years ago in 2010,and in 2011 i had only removed 4 screw . 6 months ago i start having difficulties running and then walking...I am a Gymnast ,Acrobat, and for living as a profession i do a lot of acrobatic skills flying in the air,and a lots of impacts on my leg joints!!! for the pass 6 years,i didn't have any issues ,till this summer.I had done MRI and X-rays for my booth joints, for my left knee and hip,and everything seems to be in good condition!!! I saw a doctor tree months ago,and he suggested to remove the rod,but he said that may work or may not,its 50 on 50. So i kind of didn't like his answer !!! hope i will get an answer here.
thank you.

Brief Answer:
Need to pin point the area of pain first.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The difficulty in walking and running that you have needs a proper evaluation. It needs a direct examination to see the exact site of the pain or discomfort that you feel and the site of rod end or the screw.
If the pain is near the end of the rod then the removal might help. If the discomfort is in the joints then it can happen due to minor joint inflammation. Taking mild pain killer and joint lubricant supplements can help.
A decrease in calcium and Vitamin D3 levels can also cause this. You can get these levels evaluated and start with proper supplements. After so many years it is not necessary that the discomfort that you are feeling is due to the rod only.
I hope this answers your query.

The pain i am having is in the joints, the knee and the hip. When i take Ibuprofen its getting a bit better ,and i can walk properly ,but no more than that.I have had a blood test 3 months ago,and my calcium level was perfect .i had MRI on my knee, everything was good!!! I have had a Xray and an ejection in the hip,a test injection, for the joint to get numb ,and it keeps up for about 3 hours .and if the injection wold make it easier than the problem wold be in the hip, since the scans don't show any thing, and it didn't change any thing.i came to the point where i am a bit confuse and don't know what to do

and the rod was inserted through the Gluteus ,from the hip join.but at the moment i don't have any screws in my femur,so the rod is now a free of move

Brief Answer:
The rod does not move usually after healing.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The pain in the knee can be due to minor capsular inflammation due to stress. Taking joint lubricant supplements like Glucosamine and a mild pain killer will help.
Once the fracture has healed the rod usually does not move. If there had been any displacement in the position of the rod then it would have shown on an X-ray. The pain in the hip can be due to a muscular cause like spasm. You can take an oral muscle relaxant for a few days and see if it helps.
Hope my answer is helpful.

Thanks for the answer again,
like you said,if there is some spasms in the hip that cause muscle spasm ,i will start taking muscle relaxants, thats ok for couple days,,,but with my job i always have big impacts on my joints, and i will can not take muscle relaxants always. What will i have to do for further future ?
And you as a specialist, wold you suggest a surgery to take the rod out,or not?by looking at al this things.

thank you.

Brief Answer:
Surgery may not help you.

Detailed Answer:
A physical examination is necessary to comment on whether surgery is needed or not. You need to strengthen your hip muscles with regular physiotherapy exercises to avoid any recurrence in future.
