Question: My husband had prostate surgery(TURP) last year-non cancerous condition. He is on Flomax 2X a day, but still experiences episodes of not being able to urinate, which are becoming more frequent. He has an appointment with his urologist in 2 weeks. The urologist's assistant suggested he have a catheter inserted until he sees the doctor. Are there any other alternatives? Any foods/drinks that enhance bladder function? Would more surgery be helpful?
Brief Answer:
no foods/drinks as such
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank You for consulting HealthcareMagic!
TURP is a kind of surgery indicated for Prostomegaly (Prostatic hypertrophy). I do not think that the symptom described would improve with foods/drinks.
First the diagnosis needs to be established. Sometimes there can be chances of formation of urethral stricture, post urinary tract surgery. However, a Physical examination is mandatory to assess this since there are variety of other causes that needs to be ruled out. If the diagnosis is established, then treatment would be much easier.
I do not think that there are any other known alternatives until the diagnosis is made.
