Question: Hi Sir, my name is XXXXXXX . My 6 months son is suffering from severe vomiting and loose motion .Vomiting has not been stopping.What should I do?

Thanks for writing to us.

As you mentioned vomiting usually settles in 5 days if it is because of a viral illness which is usually what we see in infants at this age
But in your sons case I strongly feel that there may be other reasons like intusussception or bowel infection which needs to be looked into and evaluation is needed for the same. I would generally advice such parents to get ultrasound abdomen done along with stool routine test.

Meanwhile, Ondansetron can be given for vomiting at 2ml thrice a day.
Continue ORS and zinc. Make sure he passes atleast 6 times urine in a day, if not he should be taken to hospital for admission.
