Suggest Treatment For Diarrhea And Blood In Stool
Question: Hi Doctor
For two weeks I've had a lot of wind before a loose stool (not diahorea), which also includes some blood ( I do have a fissure) and mucous. I've been going to the bathroom a couple of times a day.
The symptoms aren't getting any worse and I've just had a stool sample returned that was negative to parasites.
Can you please give me any advice on what your may think this could be?

The most probable reasons are gastrointestinal infection or inflammatory bowels disease.
Gastrointestinal infection can be caused by bacterial infection (which is the most probable source of infection at your case). Intestines are covered with good intestinal bacteria in normal conditions. Due to weakening this good intestinal bacteria (due to antibiotic intake for example) bad bacteria start to grow. Loose stool and gas are typical symptoms of such infection. Fever is not necessary.
Inflammatory bowels disease (like Crohns disease) can give all mentioned by you symptoms as well. You may have some joint pains and skin changes with this condition.
I suggest you to consult gastroenterologist. Stool test, stool culture test (to detect bacterial infection) should be done at first. Colonoscopy should be second.
In a meanwhile please start probiotic intake. You may also discuss with gastroenterologist Rifaximine treatment.

I'm happy to report my stools are getting better, however I'm still passing small flakes that include mucous and a small amount of blood. Could this be due to the infection?
I have no other symptoms besides these expect excessive gas when I go to the toilet.
