Posted on Thu, 16 Feb 2017
Question: Hi, my daughter was diagnosed with Adenovirus 7 days ago, she had it for roughly 14 days but has stopped the diarrhoea 6 days ago and appears to be fine now, my son is now showing symptoms, he is 1 and has asthma but so far he has only vomited once and he had one lot of diarrhoea yesterday, I'm wondering how long it should last in him and if it can spread to his lungs as I have read it is a common cause of pneumonia.?? What is the best ways to prevent it spreading to anyone else in the household.??

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query. Children often suffer from viral infections and these viruses are all around us. Whenever our immunity dips we become vulnerable and tend to catch cold. I does not need to be the same virus affecting that has affected your son. Irrespective of treatment it would be there for a week or so. In pneumonia the respiratory rate rises above 50 per min in children of 1 year of age (count the abdominal movement for one full minute). Unless that is the case you need not worry.

The best way to prevent spread to others is to sneeze of cough into a handkerchief and proper hand washing.

Regards
