Question: Hello. I am 48 yo female diagnosed w/ T1 diabetes in 2004. My last A1C lab was 6.9. Recently I have white spots on my hands and a few others on body that look very much like vitiligo. Are there treatment options for this or any way to reverse it? Thank you for your time!

Brief Answer:
Yes

Detailed Answer:
The first step would be to diagnose the condition accurately. I agree vitiligo is likely given that it is not uncommon in people with type 1 diabetes. There are treatment options for this. However these are best managed by dermatologists. I suggest you see one in person. There are various treatment options which include local applications of creams. Vitiligo shares a common 'auto immune' reason for its occurrence like type 1 diabetes ie the body's own defenses attack our own cells. But treating diabetes does not improve the vitiligo. They are to be handled independently
